Microchip and Micron Unveil PCIe Gen-6 Storage Solution at FMS 2026
Microchip Technology and Micron Technology introduced a PCIe Gen-6 storage architecture at the Future of Memory and Storage Conference 2026. This architecture integrates Microchip's Switchtec PCIe Gen-6 switches with Micron's 9650 NVMe SSDs, targeting AI, high-performance computing, and cloud data center applications.

Microchip Technology demonstrated a PCIe Gen-6 storage solution at FMS 2026, combining its Switchtec switches with Micron's 9650 SSDs. The Switchtec-Gen-6-PCIe-Fanout-Switch connects host processors to multiple Micron SSDs, designed for composable and disaggregated system architectures.
PCIe 6.0 offers a bandwidth of 64 GT/s per lane, doubling that of PCIe 5.0. The Microchip switches, manufactured using 3-nm technology, include a hardware root of trust and post-quantum cryptography compliant with CNSA 2.0 standards. This collaboration emphasizes a holistic approach to enhancing data center performance.
