Micron to Manufacture 10% of Global Output in India Amid Semiconductor Demand Surge
Micron Technology will produce 10% of its global semiconductor output in India as it ramps up its new memory plant, addressing the rising demand driven by AI data centers. The Indian government's support for the sector includes investments projected at Rs 61,671 crore and the creation of approximately 65,000 jobs, marking a shift towards reducing import dependence in key electronic components.

Micron Technology's new memory semiconductor facility in India will account for 10% of its global manufacturing output. The plant began commercial production in February, contributing to a total investment of Rs 61,671 crore across 75 approved projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, which is expected to create around 65,000 direct jobs.
This initiative aims to meet rising demand for memory chips driven by AI data centers and significantly lessen India's reliance on imports. Currently, capacitor manufacturing is projected to meet 16% of domestic demand, connectors 33%, and lithium-ion cells 61%.
Additionally, India has achieved a milestone as a net exporter in electronics, a significant shift from its previous status as an importer. Ongoing industry assessments indicate no current disruptions from the West Asia conflict, suggesting stable production conditions.
