MidOcean Energy has agreed to acquire additional stakes in Australian LNG projects from Japan's JERA, increasing its stake in the Chevron-operated Gorgon project to 1.417% and in the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project to 0.735%. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, with a total deal value reported to be under $500 million.
This acquisition aligns with MidOcean's strategy to expand its LNG portfolio and strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific gas market. MidOcean also holds stakes in Shell's Queensland Curtis LNG and previously acquired an initial stake in Gorgon in 2024. JERA continues to invest in other Australian LNG projects while diversifying its supply sources.
