Minnesota Power Secures Approval for 85 MW Solar Project in Cohasset
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved Minnesota Power's $163.5 million solar project in Cohasset, which will generate 85 megawatts of power, enough to supply approximately 19,500 homes. Construction is set to begin in spring 2024, with the project expected to be operational by fall 2027, as part of the company's broader goal to achieve 300 megawatts of solar energy by 2022 and transition to carbon-free electricity by 2040.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved Minnesota Power's $163.5 million, 85-megawatt solar project near the Boswell Energy Center in Cohasset. The project will power up to 19,500 homes and includes a new substation and a 230-kilovolt transmission line.
Construction will begin in spring 2024 and the project is expected to be operational by fall 2027. This project is part of Minnesota Power's plan to develop 300 megawatts of solar energy by 2022. The company aims for all electricity to be generated from carbon-free sources by 2040, coinciding with the retirement of its coal-fired power plants by 2030 and 2035.
