Mitsubishi Corp to Acquire Aethon’s Shale Gas Assets for $5.2 Billion
Mitsubishi Corp. has announced its acquisition of Aethon's shale gas assets in Texas and Louisiana for $5.2 billion, marking the company's largest acquisition to date. The assets, producing approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily, will enhance Mitsubishi's natural gas business and support a comprehensive value chain in the U.S., with potential exports to Asia and Europe. The deal includes $5.2 billion in equity purchases and $2.33 billion in debt.

Mitsubishi Corp. will acquire Aethon's shale gas assets in Texas and Louisiana for $5.2 billion, marking its largest acquisition. The assets produce approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily, equivalent to 15 million tons of LNG annually.
The transaction includes $5.2 billion in equity purchases and $2.33 billion in debt. This investment aims to enhance Mitsubishi's natural gas business and establish a comprehensive value chain in the U.S., involving upstream gas development, power generation, data center development, and chemicals production. Aethon's natural gas is sold in the Southern U.S., with potential exports to Asia and Europe.
