MNRE Conducts National Workshop on Floating Solar Policy and Potential Assessment in India
On February 20, 2026, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) held a national consultation workshop on the draft roadmap for Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) projects. The workshop aimed to address India's land constraints in renewable energy by promoting floating solar as an alternative.
Currently, only about 700 MW of FSPV capacity exists due to a lack of data and a clear execution framework. MNRE, in collaboration with NISE and IIT Roorkee, prepared draft assessments and policy documents.
States and Union Territories are encouraged to consult local stakeholders to identify suitable water bodies for FSPV development. Future consultations will ensure alignment with environmental regulations. The final policy will support large-scale deployment of FSPV projects across India.
