Modular Drone Case from Army's Dragon's Lair Competition Enters Production
A modular drone case developed by paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne is set for production following its runner-up position at the XVIII Airborne Corps' Dragon's Lair competition in June 2025. This initiative reflects the Army's efforts to improve warfighter capabilities and streamline acquisition processes. The project, led by Spc. Alexander Soto and Staff Sgt. Larry Dockins, resulted in a lightweight and jumpable drone case compatible with various small unmanned aerial systems, facilitated by the Lt. Gen. James M. Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost.

A modular drone case conceived by Army paratroopers is entering production after being a runner-up at the Dragon's Lair competition in June 2025. The case addresses issues of drone damage during airborne drops and is designed for easy transport in rucksacks.
Developed by Spc. Alexander Soto and Staff Sgt. Larry Dockins, the prototype was created in three months and is compatible with multiple small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS).
The project benefited from the Lt. Gen. James M.
Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost, which aims to expedite military procurement processes. The outpost officially opened in January 2026.
