Moldova's Renewable Energy Capacity Surpasses 1 GW Milestone
Moldova has exceeded 1 gigawatt of installed renewable energy capacity, with a total of 1,023.42 MW as of early 2026. The rapid growth, spurred by government policies, has seen capacity increase by approximately 69% within a year.

As of February 2026, Moldova's installed renewable energy capacity reached 1,023.42 MW, growing from 980.98 MW in 2025. This marks a substantial increase from 580 MW at the end of 2024 and a 13.23-fold rise over the past five years, with a significant leap from 77.37 MW in 2020.
Solar power dominates the landscape, comprising 73% of the total capacity, while wind power accounts for 25%. Government support has facilitated the involvement of 9,049 consumer-producers, contributing 202.34 MW, or 20% of the total capacity. Such rapid advancements may position Moldova as a regional leader in renewable energy, although reliance on specific technologies could pose future diversification risks.
