Mon Power and Potomac Edison Select Site for 1,200-MW Natural Gas Plant in Maidsville, West Virginia
Mon Power and Potomac Edison have chosen a 35-acre site in Maidsville, West Virginia, for a new 1,200-megawatt natural gas power plant. The facility aims to support over 500,000 homes and is part of the companies' Integrated Resource Plan, which includes additional solar generation projects. Site work could start in 2027, pending approval from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia, with operations expected to begin in late 2031.

Mon Power and Potomac Edison selected a 35-acre site in Maidsville, West Virginia, for a new 1,200-megawatt natural gas power plant, adjacent to the Fort Martin Power Station. The plant is designed to power approximately 500,000 homes and is part of the companies' Integrated Resource Plan.
Pending approval from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia, site work could begin in 2027, with the plant expected to be operational by late 2031. The plan also includes seeking approval for 70 megawatts of new solar generation across several projects, adding to the existing 30 megawatts of solar capacity established since 2024.
