Montana State University’s Quantum Research Facility (QCORE) has been awarded a $31.5 million contract to support research across various disciplines, involving over 50 faculty and staff. The funding aims to enhance hands-on research and laboratory experiences for students, facilitating career paths in sectors such as photonics and cryogenics.

QCORE, initially funded by a $26.7 million grant from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), houses test beds for quantum computing and networking, along with cryogenic facilities. The new funding will also expand networking test beds.

QCORE's mission includes establishing partnerships to advance strategic research and transferring advancements into practical applications. MSU aims to become a Montana Board of Regents approved center to ensure sustainable research programs. The investment is expected to accelerate commercialization in quantum technologies and support local entrepreneurs and industry.
