Morocco Completes Deployment of Israel's Barak MX Air Defense System
Morocco has successfully deployed the Barak MX air defense system from Israel at the Sidi Yahya air defense base, following a $500 million deal signed in February 2022. The system features interceptors with ranges from 35 to 150 kilometers, highlighting Israel's growing role as a key defense supplier to Morocco, which is projected to increase its defense budget to $15.7 billion by 2026. Additionally, IAI's Bluebird has established a factory in Morocco for SpyX suicide drones, further solidifying the defense partnership.

Morocco has deployed the Barak MX air defense system from Israel Aerospace Industries at the Sidi Yahya air defense base. The Barak MX includes various interceptors with ranges from 35 to 150 kilometers.
The deal, valued at $500 million, was signed in February 2022. Israel has become a major defense supplier to Morocco, accounting for 11% of its defense imports between 2020 and 2024. Morocco's defense budget is projected to reach $15.7 billion by 2026.
IAI's Bluebird has also opened a factory in Morocco for SpyX suicide drones. Morocco ranks as the second largest defense importer in Africa.
