MTU Aero Engines Acquires AeroDesignWorks to Enter Drone Propulsion Market
MTU Aero Engines has acquired AeroDesignWorks to enhance its capabilities in drone propulsion, targeting growth in defense. This acquisition aligns with MTU's strategy to diversify its revenue sources, which currently see defense contributing less than 10% of total income.

MTU Aero Engines has completed the acquisition of AeroDesignWorks, a startup focused on drone and missile propulsion, as part of its strategy to enter the growing defense sector. AeroDesignWorks, founded in 2011, generates around €10 million in revenue and serves major clients including Airbus and Boeing.
This move is aimed at increasing MTU's production capabilities and developing high-performance engines for next-generation military systems. The company is adapting to industry trends that integrate manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, while also expanding into thermal propulsion solutions amid rising investments in autonomous defense technologies in Europe.
