Myanmar Plans LNG Imports from Russia for Regional Re-export
Myanmar intends to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia for re-export to China and Thailand, leveraging its pipeline networks. This initiative aims to strengthen Myanmar's position as an energy hub in Southeast Asia and enhance regional energy cooperation.

Myanmar's Union Minister has announced plans to import LNG from Russia and facilitate its re-export to China and Thailand utilizing existing pipeline infrastructure. During discussions on April 15, Russian Energy Minister H.E.
Mr. Sergei Tsivilev indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation would soon be signed. The Myanmar delegation also explored technical assistance from Russia for developing its electricity sector and discussed long-term crude oil purchase agreements. This collaboration is poised to significantly impact energy supply chains in Southeast Asia, potentially increasing energy security and trade opportunities in the region.
