The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has cleared 60% of the legacy waste at the Excel Plant, resulting in significant relief for local communities. Approximately six lakh tonnes of municipal solid waste had been collected at the site over nearly 30 years, affecting the health and well-being of residents across multiple neighborhoods.
The bioremediation contract for clearing waste was awarded to D.H. Patel Company in March 2024. Currently, four out of six blocks have been cleared, with additional resources directed to expedite the process.
The MCC also signed a 15-year MoU with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to establish a Bio-CNG plant, which will convert organic waste into biogas, contributing to waste reduction efforts. Effective management of incoming waste is critical, as unsegregated waste from nearby areas poses challenges to ongoing clearance operations.
