Nainativu, Analaitivu, and Delft Islands to Receive 24-Hour Power Supply via Hybrid System
A new hybrid renewable energy project will provide uninterrupted electricity to Nainativu, Analaitivu, and Delft islands, supported by India at a cost of nearly $11 million. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on diesel, enhance energy security, and improve local living standards.

The Government of India is financing a nearly $11 million project to establish a hybrid renewable energy system for Nainativu, Analaitivu, and Delft islands. This system will include a 1.7-megawatt solar power plant, a 750-kilowatt wind power plant, and a 2.4-megawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), complemented by an Energy Management System for stable supply.
The initiative is poised to eliminate reliance on costly diesel power and enhance energy security, especially during adverse conditions. Improved electricity availability is expected to uplift living standards and stimulate economic activities, particularly in fishing and public services. Construction work is being expedited to enable timely access to the new infrastructure.
