Namibia and Russia Strengthen Bilateral Relations in Energy, Defense, and Agriculture
Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah committed to expanding relations with Russia across energy, agriculture, defense, and education sectors during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev. The discussions followed the Namibia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission meeting, and included a business forum with over 70 Namibian and 20 Russian companies. Key initiatives include the Wings uranium deposit project, expected to boost trade to $500 million annually and create 600 jobs. Bilateral trade surged by 82.8% in 2024 and continued to grow in 2025.

Namibia aims to deepen ties with Russia, focusing on energy, agriculture, defense, and education, as stated by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev. This follows the 11th Namibia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission meeting and a business forum that connected over 90 companies.
A major focus is the Wings uranium project, led by Headspring Investments, expected to increase trade to $500 million annually and create over 600 jobs. Bilateral trade surged by 82.8% in 2024 and continued to grow by 56.9% in 2025, reaching $18.4 million. Russia is also prepared to enhance defense cooperation with Namibia.
