Namibia's Energy Strategy Targets 70% Electrification by 2030
Namibia aims for 70% electricity access by 2030 through an increase in generation capacity to 1,153 MW, supported by a $1 billion investment in national energy infrastructure. The strategy includes renewable energy expansion, public-private partnerships, and rural electrification initiatives, creating 30,000 green jobs.

The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy plans to increase Namibia's electricity generation capacity to 1,153 MW by 2030, requiring an investment of N$1 billion. Key initiatives include developing solar, wind, and biomass projects, advancing the Baynes Hydropower project, and implementing nuclear energy strategies.
By the end of 2025, 33 schools and over 4,600 peri-urban households will have received electricity. The proportion of the population with electricity access is projected to rise from 59.3% to 70% by 2030, while 30,000 green jobs are expected to be created. This ambitious strategy may reduce reliance on electricity imports and enhance energy security.
