The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) reported a reduction in transportation costs exceeding 30% due to its partnership with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG). At the 2026 AGM in Abuja, President Yusuf Othman detailed the acquisition of new CNG-powered vehicles, including 20 CNG/petrol buses and hybrid models, for interstate and intracity services.
This initiative aligns with Nigeria's energy transition strategy to reduce dependence on petrol. NARTO also plans further collaborations with security agencies to enhance road safety and has secured funding arrangements with the Lagos State Government for fleet replacements. Despite these advancements, challenges remain, including declining revenues and infrastructure issues.
