Both officers left enduring impacts on the installation, a vital hub for Navy flight testing and evaluation.

Naval Air Station Patuxent River is mourning the loss of two former commanding officers, Capt. Edward Laney Jr. and Capt. Roger Hill, who significantly shaped the installation's history.
Laney, who passed away on December 2, 2025, at age 97, was recognized for his combat service during the Korean War and leadership that contributed to advancements in naval aviation. His tenure saw a tenfold workforce increase and numerous awards for the installation.
Hill, who died on December 1, 2025, oversaw extensive infrastructure development at Pax River, including new facilities and major renovations. He emphasized mentorship and trust in his leadership, impacting many personnel during his career. Both officers left lasting legacies at NAS Patuxent River, a key flight test and evaluation hub for the Navy.
