NASA Astronaut Captures Long-Exposure Photo of ISS Over India-Pakistan Border

ROBOTICS

NASA astronaut Chris Williams captured a long-exposure photograph from the ISS while orbiting the India-Pakistan border at an altitude of 261 miles (420 kilometers). The image shows city lights below creating ghostly trails and circular star trails in the background, evidencing the ISS's speed of approximately 17,500 mph (28,000 km/h). The photo includes the Cygnus-23 cargo craft docked at the Unity module, which delivered 11,000 pounds (4,990 kilograms) of cargo in September 2025, and JAXA's HTV-X1 docked at the Harmony module, alongside the Canadarm2 robotic arm.
