National Fuel Seeks 5.9% Rate Increase for Energy Efficiency Program in Pennsylvania
National Fuel has proposed a 5.9% base rate increase for customers in Pennsylvania, pending approval from the Pennsylvania Utility Commission. The increase, amounting to $19.7 million, is intended to offset the return of $7.2 million in unneeded retiree benefit funds.
The company cites rising operating costs and investments in network modernization and safety as justifications for the increase. The funds will also support a new energy efficiency pilot program offering rebates for high-efficiency natural gas appliances.
If approved, the rate increase would take effect on November 1. National Fuel claims that even with this adjustment, it will maintain the lowest delivery rates in Pennsylvania.
