National Grid Breaks Gas Delivery Records Amid February Cold Snap
National Grid set multiple gas delivery records in February 2025, delivering over 1.17 million dekatherms on Feb. 1. This surpassed the previous record from January 2019 and served over 600,000 customers on Long Island. The company also noted a 29% increase in gas prices during February. National Grid has advocated for the Northeast Supply Enhancement project to increase gas supply by 13%, despite opposition from green-energy advocates. Preparations included storing liquefied natural gas for high-demand periods.

National Grid achieved record gas deliveries in February 2025, reaching 1,176,448 dekatherms on Feb. 1, exceeding the previous record from January 2019. This delivery serviced over 600,000 customers on Long Island.
The company reported a 29% rise in gas prices, marking the highest levels since September 2022. National Grid set four regional records between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1 and is advocating for the Northeast Supply Enhancement project to boost supply by 13%. Preparations included storing liquefied natural gas to meet winter demands, with no supply issues noted this year.
