Following the 2025 NATO Summit in The Hague, transatlantic allies are increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP. New capability targets have been approved to enhance the Alliance's defense plans. This transformation addresses vulnerabilities in the defense industrial bases on both sides of the Atlantic, which currently lack the capacity to compete with adversaries' production. In response, the Atlantic Council is forming a task force of senior stakeholders to provide recommendations aimed at boosting US and European defense industrial capacity, streamlining acquisition policies, and fostering transatlantic collaboration in defense technology and production.
