A natural gas leak closed all lanes of State Street (Illinois Route 38) in Geneva, IL, after a contractor struck a gas line near Kane Street at 10:40 a.m. on Monday. Contractors have been relocating underground utilities for a highway reconstruction project.

The Geneva Police Department is rerouting eastbound traffic to Route 25 and diverting westbound drivers onto East Side Drive. The road closure is expected to last several hours until repairs are completed.
