Nature-Inspired Hydrogen Research and 5G Drone Detection Initiatives Announced
A new EPSRC grant supports a two-year project on green hydrogen production using nature-inspired electrolysers. AT&T and Ericsson's demonstration of drone detection via 5G networks highlights potential advancements in airspace security.

The Electrochemical Innovation Laboratory at UCL, in collaboration with Kew Gardens and CNIE, will develop nature-inspired water electrolysers for green hydrogen production over two years, funded by an EPSRC grant. Concurrently, AT&T and Ericsson showcased drone detection capabilities through standard 5G sites at the World Cup in Arlington, Texas, tracking drones to a distance of 3.7 miles.
This development in non-cooperative sensing could significantly impact airspace security frameworks, though challenges remain in performance metrics and false positive rates. The advancement of such technology could reshape urban airspace management strategies.
