NAVFAC Southeast Names 2026 Military and Civilian Engineers of the Year
NAVFAC Southeast has recognized Lt. Cmdr. John Nurthen as the 2026 Military Engineer of the Year and David Walter as the Civilian Engineer of the Year for their leadership and contributions.
Lt. Cmdr. Nurthen, who led a $200 million Military Construction project and managed a $501 million portfolio at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, is noted for his work in cybersecurity and AI adoption in engineering.
He also engages in community service as a STEM instructor. David Walter, as Supervisor of Structural Engineering, directs Navy waterfront projects across the Southeast and Caribbean and has overseen significant projects like the $650 million Kings Bay Dry Dock Recapitalization. Both engineers exemplify commitment to mission excellence and mentoring future engineers.
