NAWCAD Advances F-35 and Navy CCA Integration in Joint Simulation Environment

DEFENSE

The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) achieved a milestone in integrating F-35 Lightning II aircraft with the Navy's Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) during a tactical demonstration in its Joint Simulation Environment (JSE). The event showcased the development of tactics for fifth-generation aircraft operating alongside uncrewed systems.

F-35 pilots used touch-screen tablets to control multiple CCAs during simulations, engaging complex threats with advanced communication systems and precision-guided missiles. The Navy's CCAs are designed to enhance mission effectiveness in contested environments and are central to future strategies.

The JSE will integrate additional platforms, including the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, with enhancements planned for fiscal year 2026. The JSE is also expanding with new facilities at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nellis Air Force Base, and Edwards Air Force Base for tactical pilot training.
