N.C. Coastal Federation Unveils Five-Year Salt Marsh Action Plan

The North Carolina Coastal Federation has introduced a five-year Salt Marsh Action Plan to protect approximately 220,000 acres of salt marsh. The strategy includes the restoration of over 600 acres of degraded marshland through nature-based solutions, the conservation of inland land corridors to facilitate natural marsh migration as sea levels rise, and the update of local zoning laws alongside securing permanent state funding.

These actions are critical, as salt marshes provide essential defenses against flooding and erosion, and are integral to the commercial fishing sector.
