ND Defense Secures Navy Contract for USS Sam Nunn Helicopter Cranes
ND Defense has been awarded a contract to produce helicopter bridge cranes for the USS Sam Nunn destroyer. This marks a strategic expansion into naval operations, potentially increasing local employment in Mississippi.

ND Defense, based in West Point, has been awarded a contract to manufacture helicopter bridge cranes for the USS Sam Nunn, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer under construction at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula. This project represents a significant shift for ND Defense, which has historically supplied the Army and Marines with Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs).
The company, formerly known as Navistar Defense, currently employs approximately 200 individuals and anticipates adding 40 to 50 jobs. The collaboration with Huntington Ingalls Industries aims to enhance job creation and skill utilization in Mississippi's defense sector. The expansion into naval defense equipment could diversify ND Defense's production capabilities and strengthen its market position.
