Nearfield Instruments, a Netherlands-based company, raised $380 million in a funding round led by Fidelity Management & Research Company, boosting its valuation to $1.6 billion. The investment will focus on expanding manufacturing and customer support to meet increasing demand for atomic force microscopes used in semiconductor metrology.
Key contributors included Temasek, Innovation Industries, M&G, Invest-NL, and Qatar Investment Authority, alongside existing investors like TNO Ventures and ING. The firm aims to enhance production capacity and reduce lead times to service advanced chipmakers, amidst the rapidly growing AI chip sector, where competition is intensifying.
