Nepali Man Manoj Singh Bhatta Killed in Ukraine War After Recruitment into Russian Army
Manoj Singh Bhatta, a 30-year-old from Baitadi, Nepal, has been confirmed dead in the Russia-Ukraine war after being recruited into the Russian army. Bhatta sold his truck to finance his journey to Europe, driven by aspirations for better employment.
He traveled with a friend, Gopi Bista, and both were recruited into the Russian military after being deceived by an agent. Reports confirmed that Bhatta's family learned of his death via a DNA match following contact from the Russian Embassy in Nepal.
His body could not be returned, and a symbolic cremation was held. The family, facing financial hardship due to loans taken for the truck and the journey, is mourning the loss of their primary breadwinner. The incident underscores the risks faced by Nepalis lured into foreign conflicts by agents promising employment.
