New $1.5 Trillion Power Center to Rise at Contaminated Cold War Site in Ohio
The PORTS Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, is set to become the largest power and technology center in the U.S. at a cost of $1.5 trillion, amidst concerns over historical contamination and health risks from the previous uranium enrichment operations.

Construction of the PORTS Technology Campus, which will include a $33 billion natural gas plant and several modular reactors, is underway in Southern Ohio. The site, once the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, is associated with significant radioactive contamination and high cancer rates, as revealed by a Local 12 investigation.
The U.S. Department of Energy claims no health threats exist, despite alarming local health data. Approximately 35,000 workers will be needed for the project, raising questions about the impact on local health and the environment. The project also raises ethical concerns regarding land usage, as some contaminated properties are being redeveloped despite safety concerns.
