A new airport terminal near downtown Mobile, at Brookley Aeroplex, is set to open in October 2025, following a $362 million project on a former Air Force base. The terminal will initially feature five gates, expandable to twelve, and will include amenities such as restaurants and local artwork.
A 2018 study indicated that Mobile's airport needed relocation due to higher airfares and competition from nearby airports. Mobile captured only 13% of passengers from Daphne, prompting the move to attract more travelers from Baldwin County.
The project is under budget by $19 million, funded by federal and state grants. Officials aim to attract more airlines, including Southwest, to offer additional direct flights. The terminal will be operational by August 2025, with training in September preceding its opening.
