New Appointments Announced in South African National Defence Force
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is undergoing significant leadership changes with key appointments, including a new Chief of Staff and Surgeon-General, effective September 2026. These transitions reflect strategic shifts within the SANDF's command structure, impacting military operations and health services.

In September 2026, Major General TT Xundu will ascend to the role of Chief of Staff of the SANDF, succeeding Lieutenant General Michael Ramantswana. Xundu, currently at the SA Army Headquarters, has held various leadership positions, including Chief Director of Corporate Services and Defence Strategy.
Concurrently, Lieutenant General Robert Skosana will become the Surgeon-General of the SA Military Health Service, taking over from Lieutenant General Ntshavheni Maphaha. Additionally, Major General Carl Moatshe will assume the role of Chief of the SA Air Force on April 1, 2026.
A total of 19 appointments have been made, including promotions across various ranks, indicating a comprehensive restructuring within the SANDF. The leadership changes may affect operational readiness and strategic initiatives across the force.
