On July 8, 2026, Capt. Brett Whorley assumed command of U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia, taking over from Capt.
William Guheen III, who served since July 2025. Under Guheen, the facility executed a record $116 million budget for infrastructure improvements and managed over 120 ship movements, delivering significant cargo and fuel.
Whorley, who has a background in carrier aviation and previously served as the Force Maintenance and Training Equipment director, emphasized the need to maintain high readiness amidst evolving challenges. NSF Diego Garcia is vital for operations in the CENTCOM, AFRICOM, EUCOM, and PACOM areas, supporting U.S. and allied forces in the Indian Ocean.
