New Liquefied Biogas Refueling Station in Sweden Enhances Low Emission Heavy-Duty Transport
Chart has unveiled one of the largest liquefied biogas refueling stations in continental Europe, located in Kallhäll near Stockholm. Designed to accommodate the rising demand for gas-fueled heavy-duty trucks, the facility features multiple dispensers and a significant liquid storage capacity. Its strategic connection to a local biogas plant reinforces Sweden's circular economy by utilizing renewable fuel, thereby reducing transportation-related emissions. This development is part of a broader initiative to expand the network of low-emission refueling stations across Europe.
In an important step toward sustainable transport, Chart has inaugurated one of the largest liquefied biogas (LBG) refueling stations in continental Europe, strategically situated in Kallhäll, just outside Stockholm. Engineered and constructed at the company’s European technology center in the Czech Republic, this state-of-the-art facility is poised to meet the growing demand for low-emission fuel options among heavy-duty trucks.
Equipped with four LBG and two compressed biogas (CBG) dispensers, the station also boasts cryogenic tanks that offer a combined storage capacity of 130 cubic meters of liquid fuel. This innovative modular design not only facilitates a quicker installation process but also sets a precedent for future refueling stations.
A notable aspect of the Kallhäll site is its direct linkage to a nearby biogas liquefaction plant operated by Gasum. This connection is pivotal as it allows for the utilization of locally produced renewable fuel, effectively reducing transportation-related emissions and aligning with Sweden's ambitions for a circular economy.
As part of a broader initiative to enhance the network of LNG and LBG stations across Europe, the Kallhäll facility represents a significant advancement in providing lower-emission solutions for freight transport.
