IATA Advocates for Prioritizing Biofuels in Indian Aviation
IATA emphasizes the need for India to focus on biofuels like ethanol for aviation due to limited feedstock availability. The organization supports India's phased blending targets for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to meet international emissions goals by 2050.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recommends India prioritize biofuels for air transportation, particularly ethanol, to ensure efficient use of limited feedstocks. This is critical as other sectors, such as automobiles, can adopt alternatives like electrification.
India's Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) roadmap includes blending targets of 1% by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030 for international flights, aligning with ICAO's objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Effective feedstock management will be essential to meet both short-term and long-term SAF needs without depleting resources for road transport.
