New Natural Gas Facility Planned in Rathdrum by KEC and Partners
Kootenai Electric Cooperative will acquire power from a new gas generation facility in Rathdrum, enhancing regional electricity reliability. The project aims to address the growing electricity demand in the Pacific Northwest, providing a dispatchable resource to support the grid.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative (KEC) plans to purchase power from a new advanced natural gas generation facility in Rathdrum, set to be developed by PNGC Power and Kindle Energy. This facility aims to meet the increasing electricity demand in the Pacific Northwest and is projected to be operational in approximately six years.
The project will utilize combined-cycle technology, making it one of the most efficient gas-fired resources in the U.S., thereby lowering emissions intensity. KEC's involvement focuses on securing long-term access to reliable power without direct capital expenditure, enhancing grid resilience during peak demand and extreme weather conditions.
