New Zealand's Defence Minister Chris Penk has stated that the nation will not alter its defense relationship with the United States, citing no impact from the Iran war. He emphasized that military decisions will be made on an individual basis in alignment with New Zealand's independent foreign policy.
Penk confirmed that the current defense capability plan (DCP) includes an allocation of up to NZ$500 million for air and sea drones by 2029. The global shift towards drone technology, with countries like Australia committing $9 billion to counter-drone initiatives, highlights the urgency for New Zealand to stay competitive.
