NextEra Energy, Inc. has secured approval from President Donald Trump to develop up to 10 gigawatts of natural gas-powered generation in Texas and Pennsylvania. This initiative is part of Japan's $550 billion investment commitment linked to the U.S.-Japan trade deal.
The projects, to be owned jointly by Japan and the U.S., will be constructed and operated by NextEra Energy. The projects include a Texas hub developed with Comstock Resources and are designed to address growing electricity demand while avoiding cost increases for consumers. NextEra currently has around 30 hubs in various development stages and aims for approximately 40 in total.
