Niantic Utilizes Pokémon Go Data to Create AR World Map for Pizza Delivery Robots
ROBOTICS
Niantic has leveraged 30 billion images from Pokémon Go to create an augmented reality world map for pizza delivery robots. The game generated millions of 3D scans from players, providing valuable data for training robots.
Launched in 2016, Pokémon Go utilized geolocation and camera access, allowing Niantic to collect extensive visual data. In March 2025, the game was sold to Scopely, with all user data included in the transaction. Niantic Spatial collaborates with Coco Robotics, which created approximately 1,000 pizza delivery robots, navigating urban areas with the developed map to enhance delivery accuracy.
