Nicosia and Mekorot Sign Water Resource Management Cooperation Agreement
The Nicosia District Local Government Organisation has formalized a partnership with Israel's Mekorot to enhance sustainable water management practices. This agreement aims to reduce unbilled water and strengthen water security in both Cyprus and Israel.

The Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (DLGO) and Mekorot signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to exchange water management expertise. Key goals include reducing unbilled water, estimated at 19-20% in Nicosia, and improving sewage management during flood periods.
Konstantinos Giorkatzis represented Nicosia DLGO, while Barak Gruber signed for Mekorot. Israel's Ambassador to Cyprus, Oren Anolik, highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation in addressing water scarcity.
The partnership builds on previous desalination projects in Larnaca and Limassol, enhancing Cyprus's water security. The collaboration is expected to foster integrated solutions to common challenges in water resource management for both regions.
