Niger State Secures IsDB Support for $163 Million Solar Power Plant Project
Niger State, Nigeria, has secured support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for a $163 million solar power project aimed at addressing electricity shortages in central-north Nigeria. The 100-MW photovoltaic plant will cover approximately 200 hectares and is currently in the preparatory phase, which includes technical feasibility studies and environmental impact assessments. The IsDB will provide financial and technical assistance, although a construction start date has yet to be announced.

Niger State, Nigeria, is collaborating with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on a 100-MW solar power project estimated at $163 million. The project, announced on January 27, aims to address electricity shortages in underserved areas of central-north Nigeria.
The planned photovoltaic plant will cover approximately 200 hectares and is intended to enhance electricity supply in regions facing grid instability. Currently in the preparatory phase, the project includes technical feasibility studies and environmental impact assessments.
The IsDB is providing financial and technical support for the project, though a construction start date has not been announced. Nigeria's electricity supply heavily relies on the national grid, which has been unable to meet demand, leading to frequent outages and reliance on private generators.
