Nigeria Develops First Indigenous Military-Grade UAV, Tsaigumi Tactical UAV
Nigeria has developed its first indigenously produced military-grade Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), the Tsaigumi Tactical UAV, designed by Lieutenant Nkemdilim Anulika Ofodile of the Nigerian Air Force. Officially unveiled in 2018, the project resulted from a collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and Portuguese company UAVision.
The UAV is intended for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions in land and maritime environments, enhancing Nigeria's defense capabilities. Lieutenant Ofodile, an aerospace engineer with a PhD in Control Engineering from the University of Leicester, played a pivotal role in the project's success. This development marks a significant achievement in Nigeria's aerospace and defense sector and reflects the country's potential for self-sufficiency in military technology through local expertise.
