Nigeria Establishes Centres of Excellence for AI and Tech Education via TETFund
Nigeria is launching TETFund-sponsored Centres of Excellence in AI, Robotics, and related fields to enhance its digital economy. This initiative aims to bolster local talent and innovation, addressing the significant skills gap in the country’s tech ecosystem.

Nigeria is set to establish TETFund-sponsored Centres of Excellence focusing on Robotics, AI, Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity across six public universities. This initiative responds to a critical shortage of skilled digital workers, with only 50,000 AI professionals and 2,500 graduates produced annually, falling short of industry demands.
The project aims to support innovation and research-driven startups, improving the nation's ranking in the 2025 Network Readiness Index, where it currently stands at 103rd out of 127 countries. These centres will provide state-of-the-art facilities to connect academia with industry, fostering partnerships that can lead to commercially viable innovations. This strategic move is expected to enhance Nigeria's capacity for technological competitiveness and address local economic challenges.
