Nigeria Launches 40 Electric Buses Under Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative in Abuja

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) commissioned 40 electric-powered vehicles in Abuja to support Nigeria's clean energy transition. The Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized the initiative's role in promoting cleaner fuels and electric mobility.

The program aims to provide affordable transportation options while reducing emissions. Ismael Ahmed, Executive Chairman of PiCNG, highlighted the importance of clean energy, stating the initiative will deploy the buses within a week across several states.

The PCNGI also announced plans to expand charging infrastructure nationwide and introduced Pi-CNG 2.0, focusing on deepening gas utilization and creating jobs. Key achievements include the activation of CNG value chains in 28 states, establishment of over 58 refueling stations, and securing more than $2 billion in investments. The Kano State CNG launch is planned for Q1 2026, with President Tinubu expected to attend.
