Nigeria Targets $1 Billion Annual Investment in CNG Projects
The Nigerian government aims to secure $1 billion in annual investments for Compressed Natural Gas initiatives, enhancing transportation efficiency and reducing costs. Over $500 million has already been invested in the last year, with significant contributions from private sector players.

Nigeria's Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is focused on attracting $1 billion annually for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion projects. The initiative, driven by Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, has seen over $500 million invested so far, with a reported $175 million already committed this year.
The program aims to extend CNG access to northern Nigeria, potentially lowering food transport costs and stabilizing prices. Major companies like Greenville and NIPCO are involved in this effort, indicating strong private sector participation.
The initiative is already affecting transportation fares, with some PCNG-branded buses offering a 50% fare reduction. This shift towards CNG is expected to continue enhancing economic relief across the country.
