Nigeria to Deploy 100,000 CNG Conversion Kits Amid Rising Fuel Prices
President Bola Tinubu has mandated the deployment of 100,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kits across Nigeria to address rising fuel prices. This initiative, announced by Ismaeel Ahmed, chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), aims to reduce transportation costs amid heightened fuel prices due to the Middle East crisis.
The rollout will occur over the next two to three weeks, allowing vehicle owners, including tricycle operators, to convert engines to gas. Additionally, the government plans to develop 77 CNG refueling stations and expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure, particularly in northern transport corridors. Partnerships with local and foreign manufacturers aim to boost the local automotive sector.
