Nigerian Air Force Launches Basic Civilian Harm Mitigation Course 1/2026
The Nigerian Air Force has inaugurated the Basic Civilian Harm Mitigation Course 1/2026 to reduce civilian casualties during air operations. The course aims to enhance professionalism and is part of a broader initiative to integrate civilian harm considerations into military operations. The Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre will conduct quarterly courses and a Training-of-Trainers program to build institutional capacity.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated the Basic Civilian Harm Mitigation (CHM) Course 1/2026 to reduce civilian casualties and enhance professionalism in air operations. The course aims to integrate civilian harm considerations into operational planning and is part of a broader commitment to safeguarding civilian lives.
The Chief of Air Staff emphasized the strategic importance of civilian harm mitigation for mission legitimacy and public trust. The NAF plans to conduct quarterly CHM courses and introduce a Training-of-Trainers program.
A Civilian Harm Mitigation Governing Board has also been established to oversee the initiative. The course will include scenario-based learning to improve operational judgment.
