Nigerian Army Destroys ESN Camps in Ajali Forest Amid Ongoing Security Operations in Southeast

DEFENSE

The Nigerian Army's Operation Udo ka (OP UDOKA) has conducted offensive operations in the Ajali Forest, targeting suspected Eastern Security Network (ESN) camps. In December 2025, eight camps were destroyed, and various explosives were recovered.

Local government officials reported a reduction in criminal activities, with no kidnappings during the festive period, although overall security remains unpredictable. The Army is utilizing bulldozers to clear paths and prevent reoccupation of the area.

Communal land disputes also persist, prompting the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Biase to address ongoing conflicts. A new intelligence coordination center is set to enhance security operations in the region. Community engagement and grassroots intelligence are critical components of the strategy, with military leaders emphasizing the importance of communication with local stakeholders to improve operational effectiveness.
